Insurance & Payment
Therapy should feel accessible—not confusing.
At Home Safe Counseling, we want the financial side of therapy to be as clear and straightforward as possible.
We accept several major insurance plans, offer self-pay and limited sliding-scale options, and can provide superbills for clients who would like to use out-of-network benefits.
Insurance We Accept
Home Safe Counseling is in-network with:
Aetna
The following insurances will be available soon:
Blue Cross Blue Shield / CareFirst
Cigna
UnitedHealthcare
Your individual cost will depend on your specific insurance plan and benefits. Depending on your coverage, you may have a copay, coinsurance, or deductible.
Because coverage can vary between plans offered by the same insurance company, we recommend confirming your behavioral health benefits before your first appointment.
Not sure what your plan covers?
Call the member services number on the back of your insurance card and ask:
Is Home Safe Counseling in-network with my specific plan?
What is my copay or coinsurance for outpatient mental health therapy?
Do I have a deductible, and how much of it have I met?
Are telehealth therapy sessions covered?
Do I need a referral or prior authorization?
Self-Pay
You are welcome to receive therapy without using insurance.
Self-Pay Rate
$150 per therapy session
Some clients choose self-pay because they don't have insurance, have a plan we don't participate with, or prefer not to use their insurance benefits for therapy.
Sliding-Scale Availability
We believe finances shouldn't automatically prevent someone from seeking support. A limited number of sliding-scale appointments may be available on a case-by-case basis.
Sliding-scale availability depends on individual circumstances and current availability. Please feel free to contact Home Safe Counseling if cost is a concern. We can discuss whether a reduced-fee option is currently available.
If you are not using insurance, you may also have certain rights to receive a Good Faith Estimate of the expected cost of your care.
What If You Don't Take My Insurance?
You may still be able to use your insurance.
If Home Safe Counseling is considered an out-of-network provider under your plan, your insurance company may reimburse you for a portion of your therapy costs.
Home Safe Counseling can provide you with a superbill to help you request reimbursement from your insurance company.
How Out-of-Network Benefits Work
1. Attend your therapy session
You pay the applicable self-pay rate directly to Home Safe Counseling.
2. Receive a superbill
We provide documentation showing the services you received and the information your insurance company typically needs to process an out-of-network claim.
3. Submit it to your insurance company
You submit the superbill according to your insurance company's claim process.
4. Your insurance may reimburse you
If your plan includes out-of-network mental health benefits, your insurance company may reimburse you for a portion of the session cost.
The amount you receive depends on your specific plan, including your deductible, coinsurance, and your insurance company's allowed amount.
Before Using Out-of-Network Benefits
We recommend calling your insurance company and asking:
“Do I have out-of-network benefits for outpatient mental health therapy?”
If you do, ask:
What is my out-of-network deductible?
How much of my deductible have I already met?
What percentage will my plan reimburse after my deductible is met?
What is the allowed amount for outpatient psychotherapy?
How do I submit a superbill?
Are telehealth sessions eligible for out-of-network reimbursement?
Please keep in mind that a superbill does not guarantee reimbursement. Your insurance company makes the final determination regarding eligibility, coverage, and reimbursement.
Have Questions?
You don't have to figure everything out before reaching out.
If you have questions about insurance, self-pay, sliding-scale availability, or getting started with therapy at Home Safe Counseling, we're happy to help you understand your options.
